About Understanding...

Proverbs 4
5) Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away
from the words of my mouth.
6) Do not forsake her,
and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
7) Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.

There are times I do not understand nor have answers for the hows or whys of terrible things that happen.  And while I know God doesn't owe us an explanation, I don't believe He minds if we ask him questions about situations we are facing or the difficult roads we must walk, even if we are asking Him, "Why?"  Asking Him to help us understand is not demanding answers to questions like "Why did you do this to me?  How could you let this happen?"

This I do understand:  No matter what the situation is, God can give us a great peace that cannot be explained in the midst of the circumstance with which we are dealing.
"It is in the quiet crucible of your personal, private sufferings that your noblest dreams are born and God’s greatest gifts are given in compensation for what you’ve been through.  It is well with my soul."  ~Wintley Phipps

I went way below deck and and found I couldn't breathe.
I am very sure I could have never served in the Navy.

  1. Loved, loved your Scripture reading, Wintley Phipps quote and your message. I enjoy a message that makes me do a little soul searching.

    Do you remember the name and city of that adorable restaurant. It looks like a place were writers like Hemingway would drink coffee, read the paper & hang out with friends.
    The inside of those battleships can be beautiful, especially officers dining room. They certainly are technological works of marvel considering what materials & tools men had to work with when the USS North Carolina was built pre war II years. She was first launched in 1940 primed & ready for 1941. Your pictures of her show a majestic lady today. If we use her as a metaphor for our souls, we were born New, have our battle scars but thru salvation and daily upkeep thru pray, bible study, imitating the life of Christ, our scars will be healed. We will shine brightly as the most loved children of God whom HE created us to be and best of all We will have Eternal Life!!!
    Margaret, your Blessed Blogs just bring out the praises in me!!! I really meant to leave a short comment really!!!! You are just that good!!!!

  2. The minute you said you went below deck and couldn't breathe, I began to not be able to breathe. Still kinda forcefully dragging in air, actually.

    So nuts.

    1. Girl, I know it! I wasn't expecting it, either. It had never happened to me, and I had to just tell people to get out of my way in a sort of panicked way who were trying to come down and I was going up.

  3. Is the lioness on the campus? So true about asking God about this or that; we might not get an answer, but it is always good to come to him with everything and anything.
